L-Tyrosine
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that is used by the body to make neurotransmitters, such as Dopamine, Adrenaline and Norepinephrine. Under stress, the body burns through these neurotransmitters which can lead to insufficient levels in the brain and that can impact behavioural issues. Replenishing levels of L-Tyrosine can help maintain normal levels of these neurotransmitters helping your horse stay calm, relaxed, confident & focused.
Milled Chia Seeds
Milled chia seeds are ideal for a stressed upset gut as they support gut wall integrity, gut motility and support a healthy microbiome. They contain soluble fibre, which forms a gel-like substance when mixed with digestive fluids, helping ease an anxious, unsettled gut. The 3:1 ratio of Omega 3 to 6 in Chia Seeds is close to the essential fatty acid ratio naturally present in pasture grasses.
Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)
Vitamin C is key for immune health and is an antioxidant, helping protect the brain and nervous system from oxidative damage. Vitamin C is also involved in the synthesis of Dopamine and Norepinephrine, brain chemicals that influence mood and behaviour.
Peppermint Leaf Powder
Peppermint encourages fussy horses to eat, and contains menthol, which can help to soothe the digestive tract, reduce gas, and provide support for horses suffering with digestive issues which can lead to behavioural issues.
Flax
Flax Seed is rich in soluble fibre, particularly mucilage which forms a gel like coating when mixed with digestive fluids acting as a barrier against stomach acid. Flax is one of the best plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid which can support the health of the brain and nervous system.
Vitamin E (Natural dl-a-Tocopheryl Acetate 700iu)
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant, that plays a critical role in protecting the horse from everyday oxidative stress which is particularly relevant for high performance horses.
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil is used in our Cool Bites™ to give them their tasty flavour, while supporting the digestive & respiratory system.
FAQ’s
My horse is fine at home, but gets stressed travelling & at shows, do I have to feed Calmer PRO™ everyday?
Calmer PRO™ - Soya Free can be fed daily or for 2-3 consecutive days at a loading dose feeding rate before known changes in routine where they will feel anxious.
What’s the active calming ingredient?
Calmer PRO™ - Soya Free and Cool Bites™ are formulated with L-Tyrosine, an amino acid that is used by the body to make neurotransmitters, such as Dopamine, Adrenaline and Norepinephrine.
Can I feed Calmer PRO™ - Soya Free with Cool Bites™?
Yes! Cool Bites™ are a great way top up levels of L-Tyrosine if you horse has been stressed and depleted their levels (which can lead to behaviour issues). They are a handy bite size treat, perfect for keeping on the lorry. Feed 1-2 Cool Bites™ 1 hour before required.
What’s the difference between Calmer PRO™ & Calmer PRO™ Soya Free?
The formulas are exactly the same, but we’ve removed the Soya and replaced it with Milled Chia Seeds.
Should I split the daily amount of Calmer PRO ™ over two feeds?
It is recommended that your horse has its maintenance amount in one feed, so for a 500kg horse, you need to use 1 scoop into one feed and for a 600kg horse, 2 scoops into one feed. Do not split the maintenance dose into two feeds. 2 scoops per day = 2 scoops in one feed.
For loading doses (the first 3-5 days of feeding), you need to use the required dosage into two separate feeds (morning & evening).
I’m not sure my horse will eat them?
Calmer PRO™ - Soya Free palatability samples are available on our website, so that you can ensure your horse is happy to eat it. For the Cool Bites™ we offer a Variety Pack which includes all four flavours, so your horse can try them all and chose which they like best!
